Wolves seaons ends on a win
October 25, 2008
The Pleasant Hill Western Wolves may not have had the season they had hoped for, but they did end it on a high note, showing opponents that they will be a force in the conference next season. The Wolves defeated the West Central Cougars by a score of 26-15.
The Wolves came out strong in the first quarter scoring on a 6 yard scramble for Western's Keaton Baker. After posting 6 points on the board, Pleasant Hill's Cody Clendenny failed to connect on the extra point kick, leaving the score 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter also brought one touchdown to the scoreboard in the form of a McKinnon/Borrowman connection for 85 yards. A two point conversion failed, making the score 12-0 at the half.
Coach Don Flowers must have had his traditional "Flowers Pep Talk" in the locker room, because his Cougars came out a different team in the second half. West Central scored on a 50 yard TD pass and then make the conversion for their first points on the board. Pleasant Hill also added to their score on a 2 yard touchdown run by Western's Jeremy Holland. Clendenny's extra point kick was successful making the score 19-8 at the end of their third quarter.
West Central came back to score again on a 3 yard scamper by Jefferson making the score a tight 19-16 in favor of the Wolves. However, Mike Giles did not let the pressure get to the Wolves as they chose to push for the end zone on one last hoorah and scored on an 8 yard run by Jake Yanczer making the final score 26-16. The Wolves finished their season with a 4-5 record.
