Highlights from this year's basketball season
January 04, 2009
The Wolves cheerleaders started the basketball season with 2 seniors, Lindsey Rouse and Mackenzie both captains; three juniors, Ami Davis, Natalie Brummell, Bethanie Pulliam, six sophomores, Leslie Scranton, Keirra DeCamp, Kaitee Bailey, Molly Turnbaugh, Kristina Buffington, Cara Hill; and two freshmen, Lauren Jones and Lacy Coultas. As the season has progressed the squad of 13 has gone to 11 having two girls drop out of the program.
Even with the loss of two members, the squad remains very positive and excited about the continual improvement they are seeing. The moral is high and the spirit is up as they look forward to the Winchester Tournament that begins Jan. 10.
The squad also has two girls who cheer as mascots for the team, Cassie Cathorall and Megan Wells. These girls cheer at home games and take turns in the hot wolf uniform during varsity home games. Xeina McMillen is the cheer manager. Her responsibilities include making sure the signs make it to and from games, running errands, keeping attendance records for practices, etc. This year's squad is coached by Ms. Leah Guthrie who also sponsored last year's squad.
"I'm very proud of this year's squad. They have had to make a lot of adjustments this season which shows how versatile they are. They don't let things get them down and continue to set goals for themselves which is what I feel makes them a top notch squad. I couldn't ask for a better group of girls that what I have," said Coach Guthrie. "They are committed, dedicated and always striving to do their best and it shows!"
