John Thomas and members of the American Legion Post 1048 and Sons of the American Legion put on a fantastic Memorial Day service on a cold, gloomy Memorial Day at Crescent Heights Cemetery. PHHS alumni, students and staff all had various roles in the ceremony.
Juniors Evan Borrowman and John Webster and seniors Jessie Johnson and Alexis Damon sang song tributes during the ceremony. PHHS superintendent Don Peebles gave the invocation and members of the local Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of America also took part in the ceremony. Retired teachers Sue Coldwell and Faith Skirvin were accompanist and also sang in the community choir along with fellow retired teachers Hugh and Wilda Sutherland.
As members of the Pleasant Hill community, we can all be very proud of our students, teachers, and alumni for taking part in such a special ceremony. Thank you to Ken Davis, Sr. and John Thomas for all their hard work with this event. And most of all we say "thank you" to all those who are currently serving in the military to keep our nation safe and free. We honor those who have previously served and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. On this Memorial Day 2009, we salute you!
