Accelerated Math Stars

by Shelby Butricks

March 27, 2009

This year the Pleasant Hill Elementary and Pleasant Hill Jr. High students started a new program in their math classes called Accelerated Math. This program helps the students by giving them practices and tests when they are ready. It lets the teachers know who needs extra help on what. Each new thing that you learn about, multiplying, dividing, adding, or whatever you are learning about is its own objective.  Therefore, when you pass a test that has that objective on it, it means that you have mastered that objective. The teachers have decided that once a student masters a set number of objectives, they get an ACC Math certificate saying that they mastered them. Also, for the 7th and 8th grade math students, Mrs. Spudich has decided that, once a student masters 100 or more objectives, she will order a pizza and the student can eat lunch with her. It is an extremely fun thing to do and is a great reward for the student that master the 100 objectives. So far, Blake Smith, Julia Kinne, Hailey McElfresh, Alex Rodhouse, and Shelby Butricks have mastered 100 or more objectives and got to eat with Mrs. Spud.

Also, Zack White, Kennedy Moore, Madison Martin, and Kenny Turnbaugh exceeded 100 points on Tuesday, March 31.
