2009 National FFA Convention

November 30, 2009

On Wednesday, October 21, 2009 the Pleasant Hill FFA Chapter grabbed their blue jackets and left for Indianapolis for the 82nd Annual National FFA Convention. Students from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands traveled to attend the convention.

During the opening session Wednesday night, students were inspired by the words of wisdom from Discovery Channel's Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs.  Later that evening, they were entertained by a world renowned hypnotist, Dr. Jim Wand. Co-Advisor, Adam Benz, participated on stage for a small portion of the show.

Thursday, October 22 the Pleasant Hill FFA Chapter attended the career and college fair at the convention. Students were also given the opportunity to interact with professionals for the agricultural industry.  Also on Thursday, they went to the National FFA Talent Review.  While watching the Talent Review, students were wowed by many different forms of talent, such as a yodeler, singers, a violinist, and lasso performance.  Proceeding the National Talent Review they went to the 3rd session where president and CEO of Monsanto, Hugh Grant, gave an enlightening speech of feeding a growing population.

Friday, October 23 students were given one more opportunity to attend the career and college fair.  They then packed their bags and rode six hours home so the football players who were on the trip could play in that night's home football game and the others could sell pork chops.
