Ag in the Elementary Classrooms

November 30, 2009

The Pleasant Hill High School Agriculture 3 and 4 classes have been getting back to basics by going to the elementary school and working with youngsters to teach lessons about the importance of agriculture.

For the past two weeks, the theme of those lessons has been the use and importance of pumpkins.  First the high school students attended a kindergarten PE class where they taught the kindergarteners that Illinois is the number one producer of pumpkins.  After teaching some more pumpkin facts, the high school students helped the youngsters make a 3-D pumpkin.

Next, the high school students taught a similar pumpkin lesson to the second grade class. This time, the high school students helped the second graders make pumpkin patch pie in a Ziploc bag.

The FFA members hope to continue the Ag In the Classroom lessons with the elementary school students throughout the year.
