Additional Enrollment Opportunities for H.S. Students

May 12, 2022

There are additional opportunities for juniors and seniors to register for classes at PHHS and Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center.

First, we will be offering an Introduction to Travel and Tourism course for upperclassmen at the high school. If you wish to enroll in this class, please write it on your registration sheet or see Mrs. Arnold to change your registration if you have already turned it in.

Second, we will be renewing our partnership with QAVTC for students to take Automotive Technology and Health Occupations (Certified Nursing Assistant) on Wednesday evenings. The following details apply to those courses:

  • Classes are 2:30-6:30. Students would leave around 1 p.m. each Wednesday and be responsible for finding out and completing assignments for the PHHS classes they miss.
  • The cost of the course is $569. This fee is payable to Pleasant Hill Schools. This can also be broken into payments made on June 25, July 25, and August 25. The course fee must be paid in full by September 1 or the student will be dropped from the course.
  • The courses count for 1.5 credits toward PHHS graduation (.75 each semester).
  • Transportation is provided by PHHS. Students are not allowed to transport themselves unless prior arrangements are made in extenuating circumstances.
  • Additional Costs for CNA students.
    • $60 Book Rental
    • $40-50 Uniform
    • White Tennis Shoes
  • Additional Information for CNA students:
    • Clinicals are held at Good Samaritan and Blessing in Quincy
    • Sometimes the class will start at 2 p.m. in order to meet time requirements of IDPH
    • Nursing homes require students to be vaccinated for COVID and have a TB test completed and read by a deadline to be announced later.
    • Students are limited on absences for any reason. Even sports practices, games, and illnesses count against the students earning enough classroom and clinical hours to pass the CNA requirements. There are opportunities for students to make up clinical hours.

Third, students who would like to take an automotive technology class can also do so on Wednesday evenings at Pittsfield High School.

  • Classes are 4-7 p.m.
  • Students must transport themselves.
  • Cost is $440, with the same payment due dates and schedule as QAVTC courses

Finally, Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences is offering online classes for students to get a sneak peek of health sciences related college level courses while earning college credit. Here is a course list for interested students:  Blessing-Rieman Course List

Please contact Kylee Orr or Beth Arnold if you have questions or would like to register for these courses.
