Lady Wolves are 2-1

PHHS softball is in full swing

by Leah Guthrie

April 05, 2009

The Lady Wolves might well be the Cinderella story of this year's Pike County Conference. Coming of years of disappointing softball seasons, this year's team has hit the field with a new set of coaches, a new attitude and a newly found confidence that seems to be just what the doctor ordered!

The Lady Wolves won their first two games of the season and headed to Camp Point to surprise the Lady Panthers. Probably one of the most noticeable differences this year is the reaction to the opposing team when they find themselves in an extremely competitive game with the Lady Wolves. The Lady Wolves have been playing consistently solid softball and carving themselves out a winning streak in the process.

Not to be intimidated, the Lady Wolves looked as though they would pull out a victory at Camp Point; however, a win was not in the cards for the Lady Wolves on this particular night. What appeared to be mental errors, ended their winning streak late in the seventh inning. The Lady Wolves were downed by a score of 3-2 in an extremely close game against a very good ball club in the Lady Panthers.

Senior Alexis Damon and junior Lauren Dameron hit in the two RBI's on the night while Dameron also pitched the entire game. A nice sacrifice single by Allie Clowers allowed the Lady Wolves to advance contributing to the exciting game. You can bet that Monday night, Coach Skillman will have his Lady Wolves team ready for action against the Unity Lady Mustangs.
