PHHS Cheerleaders EIU Camp Champs!

by Leah Guthrie

July 17, 2009

The 2009-2010 Pleasant Hill High School cheer squad did well at the four-day UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) camp this summer at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. The group brought home six blue ribbons, a camp champion’s trophy in the cheer division and a Tradition's Award trophy for their camp leadership and cheering ability.

Squad members include, front row, left to right: Ami Davis (camp captain), Natalie Brummell (camp captain). Back row: Stevi Kinscherff, Samantha Black, Sarah Mowen, Bethanie Pulliam (camp captain), Keirra DeCamp (camp captain), Lesliee Scranton, Kaitee Bailey, Molly Turnbaugh. Back row: Lauren Jones, Leah Guthrie (cheer coach), Payton McKinnon, Deseree Smith, Kristina Buffington.

PHHS junior Kaitee Bailey made the Universal Cheerleaderaders All-American squad during tryouts this past weekend at Eastern Illinois University. Bailey has the option to attend the Macy's Day Thanksgiving Day parade to perform with other UCA all-Americans or she can also do a London trip. Bailey is the daughter of Dale and Lori Johnson or rural Pleasant Hill.

A special thanks to Ms. Guthrie for allowing us to raise the money to fund camp this year and for all those Wolves fans who supported us all year long. Thanks so Debi Kinscherff and Kelly Campbell for helping us get all our luggage to and from camp. Also thanks to the cheer parents for all you have done to begin this year on such a positive note by working in the food stand and lemonade stand and helping us out at the fair. We are excited to begin this sports season and look forward to cheering on the Blue and Gold!
