Seniors perform community service project at the park

by Leah Guthrie

April 05, 2009

The Pleasant Hill High School Class of 2009 performed their spring community service project on Friday, April 3. The group decided to work at the park to help clear brush, rake leaves and pick up walnuts. Park grounds keeper, Alan Scranton, along with park board member, Freddy Rodhouse, and class sponsor, Leah Guthrie supervised the class.

The group worked very hard and by noon, the park's appearance had a dramatic change. Scranton thought the group hauled off nearly 18 loads of brush. This class is the first class to start the tradition of the community service project as part of their senior year. Principal Ron Edwards said, "I want to see this continue through the years here at PHHS. It is very beneficial to our students to take part in these type of projects and I think it is nice for the community, as well."

Class sponsor Leah Guthrie commented,  "I think this class has set a great example for classes to follow. They have always been a hard-working class and they have a lot of pride in activities that they do as a class. Myself and Miss Mooney have been very proud to serve as their class sponsors. They have always given us 110%!"

Class members participating in the park clean up included the following: Austin Bailey, Alexis Damon, Macy Black, Madision Black, Justin Holman, Raven Vaughn, Dana Johnston, Jessie Johnson, Mackenzie Merryman, Lindsey Rouse, Kyle Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Stephanie Moesch, Kate Johns, Rhiley Simpkin, Xenia McMillen, and Paige Allen.
