Superintendent's Message-The Suspension of Face-to-Face Instruction
April 17, 2020
Dear Parents and Members of the Pleasant Hill School Community:
I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. I write to you today with the news that Governor Pritzker has announced remote learning will be extended through the end of the 2019-20 school year.
Like you and many of our students, we are saddened by the reality that our school community will not be able to reconvene in person this year due to this public health crisis. So many of our students have worked hard to learn and grow both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities, and today's announcement may feel like a step back; however, we are NOT going backwards. The Pleasant Hill school staff will continue to move forward in the same way we have the past two weeks and engage with your child and help him or her grow throughout the remote learning period. We are committed to learning and supporting our community of learners in any and all ways possible.
With that being said, we are also committed to continuing our food distribution program on Tuesdays between 9 and 11 AM. Paper homework assignments can be turned in at this time too. If you are not able to attend at this time, please contact the school through Facebook, email, or phone to set up a time that works for you.
The final chapter of this school year has not been written yet. It will take us some time to sort out the many schedule details that are on the books including spring concerts, promotion, and graduation among others, but in the past few weeks, our school community has proven to be more resilient, more capable, and more compassionate than maybe what we previously realized. I am confident that our collective strength will shine through during the remainder of the school year, and we will emerge even stronger.
I know this is not the school year any of us have imagined, but I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have dealt with this unprecedented situation. We will work as a district to get information to you as quickly as possible in the coming weeks, and plans will be underway soon for a return to face-to-face instruction in the next school year.
It is important we continue to work together and support our students. I cannot thank you enough for all that you are doing as we all work together through this.
Sincerely,
Ron Edwards, Superintendent
