2023-2024 Elementary School Preview

May 16, 2023

Dear Community Members,

While school districts prepare to close each May, planning for the next school year is always in full swing. Each school will have a new building leader. Mr. Lowe and I are switching spots in order to capitalize on our strengths. Mr. Lowe will be High School Principal, and I will be the Elementary Principal/District Superintendent.

Our administrative team spent time this spring analyzing current curriculums, and in an effort to provide our fifth-grade students with specialized instruction in science, we are adding fifth grade to Mrs. Damon’s class list. Fifth graders will move between classrooms; however, they will have a “homeroom” that acts as their safe and supportive home base. Fifth grade will still have all activities they have had in the past including class parties and DARE. We hope to add new opportunities as well. The full list of teachers for fifth through eighth grade is below:

Mrs. Rylander - English Language Arts

Mr. Rylander / Mrs. Clowers - PE

Mrs. Damon - Science

Mr. Johnson - Band

Ms. Davis - Math

Mr. Webb - Chorus

Mrs. Lowe - Social Studies / Agriculture

Ms. Carsey / Mrs. Pruett - Special Education

In other grade-level news, Mrs. Evans will take over as Title I Coordinator next school year. Mrs. Bower will fill the third-grade position, and Mrs. Baalman will teach fourth-grade.

Your children will see new faces in the lunch line and in the custodian position as kitchen assistant Donna Cox and custodian Ed Gunterman are retiring at the end of this school year.

The elementary school is getting a new roof in June, and the elementary campus will be closed during that time, so the summer library program with our new library aide, Mrs. Tara Dolbeare, will not begin until Wednesday, July 12. The summer library will continue every Wednesday from then until school resumes in August. More information on the summer library program and the Back-to-School Book Fair will be shared in the coming weeks.

We will be offering Summer School again this summer. Parents and guardians of eligible students will receive a notification to the email address listed in TeacherEase. Dates of Summer School are Monday, July 24 - Friday, August 11.

A Kindergarten Round-Up will be offered on Wednesday, May 24th. The Kindergarten Classrooms will be open from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for our future Kindergartners to see, and school personnel will be available to assist with registration. Those who are not able to make it to Kindergarten Round-Up can access registration at www.phwolves.com beginning Wednesday, May 24th. Kindergarten Registration will continue through Thursday, June 8, 2023.

High school students will take final exams on Wednesday, May 24, and Thursday, May 25. The last day of school for all students is May 25. Students will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m.

I look forward to leading the district as we strive for excellence in academics, athletics, and the school environment. It’s a great time to be a Wolf!

Sincerely,

Kylee Orr

Superintendent
